In 1999, it became the first advanced technical and vocational college with independent function in Gansu Province approved by the national Ministry of Education. In 2000, it was transferred from under the administration of Sinopec Group to that of Gansu Province. In December, 2002, it was confirmed by Ministry of Education and Ministry of Finance as one of the model polytechnics that would be constructed with emphasis. In 2004, it was confirmed again by the Ministry of Education as one of scarce talent training basis in the applied numerical control engineering and applied computer and software engineering. In 2005, the Provincial Ministry of Education assessed LZPCC as the first excellent polytechnic in Gansu Province successfully. Meanwhile, it passed the examination of the IS09001 International Quality Management Systems Certification and got the certificate. In 2006, it was selected as one of the first 28 national key model polytechnics in China and financed to construct by the central government. During the past 50 year history, LZPCC, following its motto "Unity、Diligence、Dedication、Innovation", has made great progress and cultivated more than 50,000 qualified graduates for enterprises and society, most of whom are now the heads and backbones of different departments of all levels in the petrol industry or other businesses. In recent years , LZPCC has been awarded the prize of "Provincial Civilization Unit", "Excellence Unit in Gansu Provincial Education System","Excellence Unit in Gansu Provincial Technical Vocational Education","Landscape Model Unit in Lanzhou city", etc. LZPCC lies in Xigu district, Lanzhou municipal, covering 370 mu with building area of 253,000, holding 47 training bases, 128 labs on two campuses and 23 fixed and stable off-campus training centers in some domestically famous enterprises such as Lanzhou Petrochemical Branch of Petrol China and Lanzhou Petrochemical Co. It has fixed net capital of 360 million yuan, various teaching and experimental equipment and devices worth of 83 million Yuan, 2925 teaching computers, 610 thousand books and 600 GB sand electronic books in the library. Besides, various facilities have also been established for staff and students on the campus, such as advance broad computer network, multimedia and language lab net, closed circuit TV net, accommodation and entertainment conditions, including two standard playgrounds, one gymnasium, two 2000-seat auditoria and a students' entertainment center. LZPCC owns 73 staff, 477of whom are full-time teachers. Among them there are 181 professors and associate professors, 166 with doctor or master degrees, 258 with double qualifications of teachers and engineers. Besides, 282 part-time teachers with rich experiences are from the front line of production, management and service. LZPCC has established eight departments, six research institutes with first class among the countparts in the western area and one school. They are Department of Petrochemical Engineering, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Department of Electrical & Electronic Engineering, Department of Information Processing and Control Engineering, Auto-engineering Department, Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, Foreign Language Department, Civil Engineering Department, Petrochemical Research Institute, Magnetic Driving Technology Research Institute, Automation Research Institute, Computer Applied Technology Institute, Mechanics Institute, Boxin Enquiry and Planning Office, and Further Education School which offers training for working staff. It opens 71 majors now. There are approximately 11,000 full-time students, 2,700 part-time adult students and short-term trainees on the two campuses. In recent years, adhering to the new management concept: "Following rules, pursuing characteristics, combining teaching with production, concentrating on skills, adapting to market", LZPCC positively taps the rules for advanced vocational education to improve the educational and teaching reform with full force. As a result, the employment rate always remains above 92% for 5 years.
