RAG (Raise and Give) Team Member (Northumbria University) March 2009-2010 (Voluntary work)
Raise and Give is a volunteer project where students from Northumbria University give a week of their time to help raise money for charity. I have taken part in two RAG Weeks. During my time as a RAG volunteer I took part in many street collections to help raise money for a wide range of charities such as the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation. I was responsible for letting the public know what these charities actually do. I worked within a team; it developed my ability to build quick rapports and successful improved my ability to work within a team. I also learnt to be a lot more assertive, and my own confidence improved.
Welcome Week Team Member (Northumbria University) September 2010-2012 (Voluntary work)
Welcome Week is an opportunity for current Northumbria University students to volunteer two weeks of their time to help welcome new students to the university. I have participated in three Welcome Weeks. My responsibility during Welcome Week was to represent Northumbria University in a responsible and respectful manner. My tasks involved showing new students around campus, helping them settle into a university lifestyle and assisting them with any queries they may have had. I also helped the new students move into the student halls and made sure that both parents and students had a stress free day. I had the responsibility of working in a team to manage activities such as Fast Friends, beach clean, and many fun filled night activities to help encourage the new students to bond.
Football Referee (Northumbria University) October 2010- June 2011
I worked as a part time referee for Northumbria University’s 11 a-side football tournament. My main roles were to act as a responsible referee during each game, report injuries and disciplinary measures to my manager and email the results of each match to the league administrator.
Volunteer Northumbria Team Member (Northumbria University) February 2012 (Voluntary work)
Volunteer Northumbria is a volunteering opportunity that is run by Northumbria University Students’ Union, where students can volunteer one week of their time to help the local community. The week consisted of a beach clean, DIY wildlife, helping local farmers, renovating parks and much more. During this week I promoted and took part in an anti-bullying campaign video. I played an important part in the video as my interpersonal skills helped the team generate some fantastic ideas for the video in a tight time schedule. This improved my time management skills as well as me coming out and taking the role of leader of the team. I also helped organise and participated in Give it a Go sessions. These sessions consist of a wide range of activities such as baking, dancing, and learning to stitch.
Student Representative (Northumbria University) September 2012-2013
My responsibility was to represent the university in a professional and responsible manner during the university open days. My roles during the open days were to answer any queries potential students may have, talk about my university course and experiences, advise students which course would best suit their needs, and help students get familiar with the vast amount of university buildings.
