English as a Foreign Language (EFL) Teaching Experience:

March 2010–June 2015:  The Al Khaleej Projects, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.  The University of Tabuk, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and other universities within Saudi Arabia.  Preparatory Year English Program.  Taught foundation English, using the New Headway Plus Elementary Level series.  Prepared quizzes and exams and conducted teaching workshops. Resigned to take a writing sabbatical; currently writing novels at my house in Northern Thailand and in the Strait of Malacca.  

July 2000-July 2002:  Military Language Institute, Al Ain and Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.  AMIDEAST.  Taught EFL at the UAE Military Academy, Al Ain, and MLI Abu Dhabi to UAE Army cadets, officers and Special Police commandos.  I honored the contract and resigned in order to work as a writer.

May 1999-May 2000:  EFL Section, Foreign Languages Department, Rajabhaht Chiang Mai, Chiang Mai, Royal Kingdom of Thailand.  Taught Literature seminars, English for Business, and English for Conversation.  

January 1993-August 1996:  EFL Section, Foreign Languages Department, Wat Loei Luang Buddhist College for Northeastern Thailand, Loei, Royal Kingdom of Thailand.  Taught foundation level English to Buddhist monks, administered quizzes and tests, and supervised the language lab.  Resigned in order to get my Master of Arts in English.

Education:  Master of Arts in English (Literature).  1999.  M.A. Thesis:  “Hemingway’s Cante Jondo: The Old Man and the Sea.”  James Madison University, Harrisonburg, Virginia, United States of America.

Bachelor of Arts in History with minors in Spanish, Latin American Studies and Political Science.  1982.  James Madison University, Harrisonburg, Virginia.         

Foreign Languages: Proficient in Spanish and Thai.  

Military Service: United States Marine Corps, Infantry (Special Operations Capable). 5 January 1987-5 July 1989.  Bravo Company, 1st Battalion 3rd Marines, 1st Marine Expeditionary Brigade. Raiding team leader and infantry radio man.  Served on active duty in the USA, Okinawa and the Republic of Korea.  Honorably discharged, Corporal, E-4, with 10% disability pension, after major back surgery in Hawaii.

Honors:  Fall 2006:  Visiting Scholar, the Political Science Department, James Madison University.         

1982 & 1983:  Honors in Poetry, James Madison University.
