Position: Dean of Studies-Beijing International Studies University (UK/US collaboration project-short term prior to learners attending university abroad)
Ø Recruit and retain suitably qualified, experienced, and mature faculty to deliver a unique and pioneering IELTS based English course, which uses fine art and design themes to stimulate learners interest in learning English, and being able to achieve a high overall band score;
Ø Organise and examine for entrance tests (for entry on to the course);
Ø Develop and design curricula and syllabi, to meet the needs of learners;
Ø Monitor individual and collective progress of all learners using regular assessments, circumspect feedback, and course assignments;
Ø Encourage faculty to use technology in the classroom to stimulate learners with language acquisition;
Ø Provide regular reports regarding academic standards and achievements to the Academic Director and Programme Director;
Ø To ensure learners can proceed to further academic study abroad (UK/US);
Ø To regularly attend and hold meetings relating to this course with students, Chinese management, and teachers teaching on the course
Ø Role, duties, and responsibilities similar to that below. However, the emphasis was on preparing suitable curricula to equip learners with the essential language skills necessary for successful study abroad;
Ø Learners were also given regular tests (IELTS equivalency) to check their individual progress;
Ø Some liaison with international academic institutions was also necessary.
June 2014 – January 2015 Position: Head of Studies-De Montfort University/Renmin University of China (Collaboration) (UK English Preparatory Programme-IELTS)
Ø Manage a UK University English programme at a well known Beijing university for students who will eventually study and live in the UK (De Montfort University);
Ø Keep accurate student records and staff records, including entry level and exit level grades/indicators, attendance records, and examination records for students; and to maintain teaching schedules;
Ø Ensure students are being taught in accordance with the course outline/curricula requirements and to amend such curricula when necessary to ensure the programme is delivered successfully;
Ø To monitor student performance and satisfaction on the course and to undertake regular teaching observations with a view to constantly improving on teaching/learning techniques and to continually review and improve the course in order to fully meet the expectations of our students ;
Ø To regularly attend and hold meetings relating to this course with students, Chinese management, and teachers teaching on the course as well as continually liaising with the programme director at De Montfort University, UK;
Ø To cover for teachers when absence requires this, provide guidance to teachers on a regular basis on teaching methods, and to constantly monitor the progress of the course;
Ø To recruit and retain teachers who can make appositive contribution to the programme.
October 2013 – May 2014 Position: Freelance (Academic)/Corporate Trainer
Ø Provide seminars, lectures, and classes (individual and group) to trainees attending in-house corporate training sessions in English. Trainees learn how to use their newly acquired English skills in a variety of contexts/situations relevant to their corporate needs;
Ø Corporate training material, coaching, tutoring, and extra-curriculum learning activities undertaken;
Ø Individual and group feedback provided to both trainees and course providers, confidentially, on a regular basis, and in detail.
Ø To prepare course material, set examinations, and provide an academic learning environment for students to prepare for study/employment overseas, where English speaking skills will be necessary
Ø Sept 2013 – Jan 2014 Ø Position: Senior Lecturer/Programme Advisor Ø Employer: Guangxi University for Nationalities, Nanning, Guangxi, China. Ø *To have regular after class academic counseling sessions/meetings with management regarding the delivery of the programme; Ø *Prepare, mark, and provide feedback to students regarding assignments, projects, and essays; Ø *Encourage students to use critical thinking skills/analysis regarding the work they are required to produce; Ø *To keep accurate records of every student’s academic performance on my course; Ø *As a lecturer, to provide an interesting and stimulating educational experience for students following the Communication Skills/Academic English courses; Ø *To hold regular tutorials with students and meetings with Chinese colleagues; Ø To actively participate in extra-curriculum activities with students, relevant to their learning.
May 2013 – Sept 2013 Position: Adjunct Lecturer of English (Laureate English Program) Employer: Stamford International University, Hua Hin, Campus, kingdom of Thailand. Ø English Lecturer - Teaching an intensive English course to students enrolled on: International Business Management, International Hotel Management, Airline Business Management, Marketing Management, and Business Administration bachelor degree programmes (programs); Ø To teach and encourage learning, using technology in the class-room using the student-centred approach; Ø To ensure students actively learnt and retained knowledge, rather than just following a course;
July 2012- April 2013 Position: English Lecturer/Team Leader Employer: University College Jubail, Eastern Province, kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Ø English Lecturer: - As a team leader and lecturer; to teach English speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills to non-native speakers; Ø Record, maintain, and retrieve clerical and electronic information with regards to attendance, test results (weekly), and class participation.
September 2011- June 2012 Position: English Lecturer/Team Leader Employer: King Faisal University, Hofuf, Al-Hasa (Eastern Province), kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Ø Teach pre-year single sex (male) students of mixed abilities English listening, reading, writing, and speaking skills; Ø Use various learning methods in the classroom such as the use of technology as well as using conventional learning methods; Ø Follow the set curriculum and providing supplemental material as appropriate to the students’ needs with particular regard to cultural sensitivity;
October 2010 – September 2011 Position: Senior Lecturer of English Employer: King Mongkut’s University of Technology North Bangkok, Bangkok, Thailand. Ø Prepare, evaluate, and give lectures in English to students enrolled on a variety of courses studying English; Ø Prepare, proof-read, and edit examination papers for Thai colleagues as required; Ø Provide supplemental material, particularly, on Information Technology and Intellectual Property rights.
