January 2013- Present Acting head of faculty Design and technology – Holte Visual and performing arts college As head of faculty I am responsible for the teaching and learning of all pupils who are taught design and technology. I manage the subject disciplines of textiles, graphics, resistant materials, food and product design and lead a team of 12 people. I am responsible for my team’s delivery of outstanding teaching lessons and facilitate their professional development through in house training and mentoring.
· Deliver the design and technology national curriculum from 11-16. · Plan and deliver AS and A level courses in 3D product design and Textiles. · Manage and submit relevant paperwork and exam entries to the exam board. · Foster close relationships with feeder junior and infant schools through a variety of workshops. · As part of a teaching leader’s school, I act as a consultant for D&T provision within local schools from KS1-KS5. In particular I help enable primary schools to implement D&T through thematic projects. · Delivery of ‘STEM’ lessons through the use of a variety of media including robotics. · Strategic planning in order to support low ability and high attainer’s to achieve GCSE and A level Success. · Budget management and forecasting of grades. · Timetabling and academic mentoring. · Lead regular faculty meetings to inspire and motivate the team to meet challenging service standards and targets. · Extensive examination analysis and self-assessment. · Pastoral care. I am fully trained to deliver PATHS. · Design schemes of work for KS3, KS4 and KS5. · Liaise directly with parents regarding behavior and academic progress. · Organise and lead out of hour’s enrichment sessions to support examination periods. · Develop department strategies for literacy and numeracy. · Lead working parties with trainee teachers at Birmingham City University to implement the new national curriculum with the use of purposeful, measurable assessment. · School Direct Trainee mentor.
