“Test of Euphemism and Dysphemism” (TOED)
The TOED is a diagnostic assessment tool on ESL/EFL students’ comprehension and production of metaphor, targeting euphemism and dysphemism at the academic/professional level with a focus on media and news discourse.
Applied Linguistic Research Project
“A Critical Approach to Applied Linguistics Research: Power, Identity, and Social Justice in an International Trade Internship”
This case study followed a Japanese non-native speaker of English in her communicative interactions as an intern at the United Nations in Geneva. Through a naturalist research paradigm, and informed by poststructuralist theories on education research, data was analyzed for how the participant’s statuses and social identities affected her communicative interactions in the target language environment and how her professional and personal experiences were influenced by issues of power, identity, and social justice.
