Efficiently worked as a team involved in fire suppression tactics including safely using fireline equipment to dig fireline, prep for prescribed burns and proficiently mitigate hazards for initial attack operations, mobile and stationary attack operations and mopup operations. Participated in daily regimented crew physical fitness program. Maintenance of type 4 and type 6 fire engines including greasing, checking tires, lug nuts, performing daily checks to ensure proper function of the truck including axles, exhaust and muffler, belts, fans, hoses, radiator, fuel pump, filters, batteries, fuel tank. Checking fluids such as oil, power steering fluid, coolant and automatic transmission fluid. Checking for leaks. Powerwashing, waxing and buffing the body of the truck. Ensuring proper function of the truck's water pump, checking the oil, coolant, and filter daily, changing the oil, cleaning the filter, ensuring valves, gauges primer and override switch are in working order. Filling the water and foam tanks as needed and checking the pressure of the pump weekly. Inspecting truck's fire fighting equipment such as the water cannon, hard-line, hose reels, engine protection line and line for stationary attack, to make sure everything is intact and in proper working order. Efficiently operated truck pumps and Honda water pumps in drafting operations, stationary attack operations, mobile attack operations and initial attack operations. Assisted with troubleshooting and fixing of trucks, truck pumps and portable pumps such as pump failure, coolant leaking, water leaking and lack of pressure coming from the pump and/or at the nozzle. Assisted with troubleshooting and fixing of mechanical problems that occurred with the truck. Assisted with winterization of engine water pumps and portable water pumps. Post-fire engine checks and rehabilitation of fireline equipment including sharpening handtools, checking pumps, refilling water and foam, cleaning hose and replacing of burned hose. Post-fire chainsaw maintenance including inspecting chain, bar, bearing, sprocket and clutch, sharpening chain, cleaning air filter and spark plug and spinning new chain when needed. Sized up and fell hazard trees in initial attack, stationary attack, mopup and prescribed burn operations. Falling of A level trees in fuels operations. Used hydraulics to calculate at nozzle pressure for stationary attack. Operated drip torches for prescribed burn operations. Went on a 14 day detail to Texas responding to type 3 and 4 wildfires, working with helitac crews, hand crews and hotshot crews securing fireline and various other things on initial attack operations.
