Company: Dalian Neusoft Institute of Information, Dalian, China.

Dates: September 2010 to June 2011

Position: Teacher

Duties: 

-I taught both English Major and non English major causes (including four year and associate degrees) primarily conversational and culture courses using a range of materials and texts.

-I taught Advanced English (grade three English majors) Integrated English (covering reading, writing, listening using a range of essays, articles and in-depth texts). It was a course designed for students who have attained a high level of academic ability. As well as this I taught the English department’s Chinese teachers a culture course for two semesters. 

-I also taught a IELTs course to International students in preparation for their post graduate studies in Britain, Australia and America. 

- I developed original curriculum material and course outlines which were chosen to be introduced as standard at the university.

 - I acted as a judge at various competitions and question master for final year dissertation discussion as well as tutoring in debate and preparing students for the MUN (Model United Nations) debate completion. I wrote a speech that won first prize out of over 700 contestants.

- I gave lectures to groups of over 500 people on several occasions.

Position: Teacher

Duties:

- I taught in International Department, a program with international accreditation   designed to enable students the opportunity to study abroad, I was responsible for teaching western culture as well as improving their oral, writing, listening and reading abilities via a set curriculum.

- Teaching oral, discussion and debate to post-graduate students using a varied topic based system of my own creation

- I was chosen to transfer to the department of English; affording me the opportunity to teach students with a greater English proficiency

Here I implemented my own curriculum covering history, literature and culture as well as focusing on improving core areas of language study

- I have been the lead foreign teacher for all grade 1 and 2 (freshman and sophomore) students

- As well as teaching, I have been responsible for creating, implementing, invigilating and grading examinations

- I taught specialized writing and public speaking classes, as well as serving as foreign question master for all final year thesis defense students and speech contest participants.

Dates: September 2007 to September 2008

Position: Teacher

Duties:

-Teaching children English as a second language, with varying abilities and between the ages of 5 and 15 across a broad range of subjects (science, history, social studies, art, etc)

-Creating and implementing weekly and monthly lesson plans and producing and choosing appropriate materials and course books

- Writing daily reports based on student behaviour and academic performance

- Conducting monthly phone-based teaching and counseling sessions

- Supervising field trips, activity days and related events, such as speech contests

- Being the main writer and speaker for the annual graduation ceremony 

- Producing continual assessment material (through written, spoken and other means of testing)

- Writing in-depth student reports and evaluations on a monthly basis

- Liaising with parents as to their children’s performance 

- Being the teacher in charge of the more specialized classes, for older children with greater aptitude such as literature discussion and essay-based classes

- As well as that I was also entirely responsible for teaching the new intake classes, who had no previous knowledge or understanding of English and were very young

-Every month parents would observe my classes in order to show them the high standard of teaching; in addition to this I performed several demonstration classes to the other teachers.

Dates: August 2006 to August 2007

Position: Account Manager

Duties:

-I was required to perform live credit checks on customers wishing to open store card accounts with major retailers, using the Experian system and then advise store attendants.

-I had to answer and resolve customer and retailer query/complaint calls.

-I was responsible for data entry; I filed documents and performed general office administration duties. 

During summer holidays while at university, I have worked on several occasions for Teleperformance UK, in the role of telesales operator, marketing various products, such as Homecall and Vanquis Visa. 

      Voluntary Work

While at University I volunteered for Nightline: a listening and information service ran for, and by students. At least one day per week I performed duties between the hours of 8pm and 8am. Students could call or drop in to the centre to discuss problems. I feel doing this reinforced my listening skills and confidence in understanding, and dealing with issues other people have. I found it very rewarding. 

For work experience, I acted as assistant curator at Birmingham University’s Earth Sciences Department alongside Professor John Clatworthy. The job entailed producing and managing displays, classification and cataloguing of specimens (such as fossils and gems), maintaining existing collections and assisting students with various research projects.

Hobbies and Interests 

I enjoy art, in particular drawing. I enjoy politics and current affairs, hiking and swimming. I have an interest in learning about and experiencing other countries and cultures. During my time in China I gained acting experience, appearing in a film and on television.
